2022 National Travel and Tourism Week Celebrations

Job Seekers invited to join Maryland’s Coast Tourism & Economic Development for Statewide Virtual Job Fair May 4

Snow Hill, MD (April 29, 2022) – Maryland’s Coast Tourism and Economic Development (MCTED) invites those seeking rewarding career opportunities to participate in the Hospitality & Tourism Virtual Job Fair this Wednesday, May 4, 2022, from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. Job seekers will have the opportunity to meet virtually with employers from 19 Maryland counties, as well as Annapolis, Baltimore, and Ocean City.

Positions are open in hospitality and tourism, including restaurants, bars, food service, travel-related businesses, attractions, zoos and museums, retailers and casinos, hotels, inns, motels, B&Bs, meeting, wedding, and event venues, pools, beaches, waterparks, and more. To register for the job fair, visit https://pvapi.premiervirtual.com/s/81rNrd.

The statewide virtual job fair is presented by the Maryland Association of Destination Marketing Organizations, the Maryland Tourism Coalition, and workforce system partners, including MCTED, to assist the hospitality industry statewide.

“Our department is working hard to bridge divides between the businesses needing to fill voids and the community looking for new and exciting jobs,” MCTED Director Melanie Pursel said. “With that our advertising, efforts have increased to really show the public all the great things that the county has to offer.”

Now is the perfect time to consider working in an industry that offers a wide variety of positions, flexible hours, and the opportunity to develop essential skills that will last a lifetime.

The job fair takes place in concert with Travel and Tourism Week, May 1-7. According to a Tourism Economics report, the pandemic resulted in a net loss of more than 45,600 Maryland jobs that directly interact with visitors in 2020. That is more than 30 percent of all jobs directly supported by visitor activity. Even with those losses, visitor activity in Maryland continued to directly support 104,328 jobs, or 2.9 percent of all jobs in the state.

About National Travel & Tourism Week: National Travel and Tourism Week 2022 is an annual industry tradition celebrating the value travel holds for our economy, businesses, personal well-being and more. The County Commissioners will issue a proclamation formally recognizing Travel and Tourism Week on Tuesday, May 3. Then on Wednesday, May 4, MCTED will celebrate travel’s promising future by participating in “Maryland in a Day” ride on Thursday, May 5. Chris Riehl, a Maryland Tourism Coalition partner, will begin his day in Ocean City at sunrise, stop off at On What Grounds in downtown Berlin, and travel throughout the state. He’ll end his day with sunset in Garrett County. All are invited to follow his adventures, which will be fully advertised on social media with tags of local businesses, live videos and pictures.
