If you’ve ever been on the Ocean City, MD Boardwalk, you know the smell of the famous Thrasher’s French Fries. As a staple business in the community, lines form year-round for a hot, fresh bucket of delicious fries.
The initial goal of the business? To create the best-tasting french fry that has ever been eaten, and that’s exactly what Mr. J.T. Thrasher did.
The History of Thrasher’s French Fries
It all started in 1929 when J.T. Thrasher from Georgia, created a new business in Ocean City, MD. The food stand specialized in only one product, which caused others to doubt his decision. However, despite the skeptics, he continued on with his endeavors and started a business that has become a household name.
The original recipe and process were brought about by hard work, and the best quality ingredients. Thrasher’s was located by the Ocean City Amusement Pier before it was moved to its current Boardwalk location.
Since then, 80 years later, Thrasher’s owners have only changed twice. The first time was when Mr. Thrasher had to sell the business due to health concerns. He found legendary businessman Franklin “Crip” Hastings who shared his high standards for the local establishment.
In 1974, Charles R. Jenkins became the new owner of Thrashers after Mr. Hasting’s death, and he remains the current management.
Throughout these changes, quality and tradition were never compromised, making sure that their fries retained superior quality, taste, and appearance that every customer of Thrasher’s French Fries has come to know.
