Did you know that SHORE UP provides services to the underserved, free of charge? SHORE UP stands for Self-Help on Rural Economics and Urban Problems and became established in 1965 through Lyndon Johnson’s “war on poverty”. The Worcester County locations include head start facilities in Berlin, Stockton and Snow Hill. The program is open for pregnant women and children up to three years-old. Head Start offers day care/after care, educational lessons, meals/snacks and even off-site field trips.
SHORE UP also provides four different energy assistance programs. The services assist families and individuals with homes in need of bill assistance and includes energy efficient upgrades to overall save bill costs. Need a hand with taxes? For incomes $60,000 and less, you are eligible to file your taxes and w2s through Shore Up’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (V.I.T.A.) program, this service is for free and can be completed by making an in-person appointment or remotely.
