Melanie Pursel
Director of Tourism and Economic Development
Melanie’s passion for economic and tourism development was fostered early in her career as a workforce specialist with the Maryland Department of Transportation and Tri-County Council for the Lower Shore. She took the reins of the County’s tourism office in April 2020. Prior to joining the County, Melanie served as Executive Director of the Greater Ocean City Chamber of Commerce. During her tenure, the Chamber successfully launched a workforce development initiative, founded a non-profit charitable arm and secured $500,000 to retire building debt. A native Baltimorean, Melanie fell in love with Maryland’s Coast while earning a B.S. in business management from Salisbury University in 1997 and moved to Berlin. She received a graduate degree in industrial psychology from the University of Baltimore in 2000.
